Fecal Impaction Requires Decisive Constipation Remedy

by Mark Washington

Today's busy lifestyle often brings about constipation, even though there are healthy food options available. Many people suffers every now and again from small episodes of constipation. Alas, fecal impaction can easily and quickly result from a common bout of temporary constipation.

To counteract intestinal impaction and constipation, first take a look at your eating habits. Many healthy food options are now available and more people are eating healthy, however constipation could be a result of how you eat. Proper chewing allows enzymes to break down nutrients in the foods you eat and begins digestion. Thus, eating slowly and taking time to chew is important.

Of course, food choices are just as critical. If constipation is more frequent than you'd like, you may have drifted toward a diet too rich in either fat or sugar. In this case, changes are in order. What may be lacking is fiber and you'll be wise to either supplement your fiber intake or add more veggies to your meals.

Proper hydration is a vital component of maintaining a healthy digestive system and avoiding fecal impaction. Remember, coffee and sodas don't properly hydrate. The main purpose of the digestive process is the increase of nutrients and the reduction of bodily waste. Thus, if you increase your fiber levels you must consequently increase your water consumption to avoid clogging your intestines.

Those individuals who are doing everything right as far as nutrition is concerned will need to take a look at their vitamin intake. Some vitamins may actually cause constipation, even if they are dosed correctly. Perhaps the most well known culprits are iron supplements.

Colon cleansing is one way to counteract constipation. Before undergoing a colon cleanse, you should consult with your doctor. This is especially true if you have underlying medical conditions. If your doctor doesn't suggest colon cleansing, you may want try drinking prune juice after each meal.

A child who is constipated should be carefully looked upon by the parents. Fecal impaction should be avoided by careful observation and action. Often parents can easily look back over the child's diet and backtrack to find a change and cause of constipation.

Children who are often constipated should see a pediatrician. Sometimes kids will swallow tiny toys and other objects, causing an obstruction. If an obstruction is not recognized the situation could become life threatening. A quick x-ray can show whether there is an obstruction or not.
