3 Effective Procedures For Treating Stretch Marks
When it comes to treating stretch marks, everyone seems to have there own surefire home remedy. But while cocoa butter, vitamin E and Retin-A might have some positive results, many people want a more dramatic, and permanent, solution.
Many have found that some cosmetic procedures can help to drastically diminish the depth and appearance of stretch marks. And here are three of the most common.
Microdermabrasion Might be one Solution
One of the benefits of microdermabrasion is that it's fast, taking less than an hour. This treatment removes dead skin cells, along with some of the abnormally colored skin cells, from the surface of the skin. Afterwards, the stretch marks in the area will be smoother and less visible.
Another benefit of microdermabrasion, besides the speed with which it can be done, is the lack of recovery time. You can leave the doctor's office, and continue going on about the rest of your day.
The Benefits of Laser Scar Reduction
Laser scar reduction, or laser scar removal, is a procedure that can drastically reduce the appearance of scars by more than 50 percent.
During a laser scar reduction, a laser is run across the scarred area. The top layer of skin is removed, and the layer of skin beneath is revealed. After this newly revealed layer of skin has a chance to heal and regenerate, patients find that any scarring in the area is less pronounced. The pink, purple or red color often associated with stretch marks will be dramatically reduced, and the marks themselves won't be as deep.
A Chemical Peel Is another Option
Chemical peels can help makes scars less deep and visible. They can also dramatically reduce, or even eliminate, skin discolorations.
During a chemical peel treatment, a solution that contains acid is applied to the skin. Dead and discolored skin cells are removed from the surface of the skin, and the process that causes your body to generate new, healthy skin cells is stimulated.
The result? Discolored skin returns to a more natural color, and the depth of stretch marks is reduced.
Recovery time for a chemical peel depends on whether you have a light, medium, or deep peel. With a light peel, you can be out and about in just a few hours, although you will have to take precautions, like wearing sunscreen. With a deep peel, your doctor might recommend you stay home and rest for several weeks.
When it comes to treating stretch marks, there are many different options. Consider them all, and then choose the one that is right for you.
